”Too expensive to my mind”
“At the right price”
“The price of quality”
“Overpriced”
“A price that’s bordering on a rip-off”
We hear all sorts about the retail price of the TEMO·450. Some of you may have a good idea of what it costs to manufacture a high-quality industrial product in France, but it’s not a waste of time to recall the cost structure of the TEMO.
We’re doing this in full transparency to avoid any misunderstanding.
First, let's remember one key point: 70% of the value of the TEMO·450 is spent in France. Assembly, aluminum tubes, plastic parts, machining, textile accessories, electronic cards... all these components are purchased from French companies. Of course, this does not mean that these suppliers source all their raw materials in France, but we do our utmost to support the local industry.
Made in France Certified French Origin Guaranteed
That said, as you may have guessed, some components come from Asia, as there are no alternatives in France that meet our requirements. This is particularly the case for the charger, the gauge, the battery, and part of the motor block.
One thing all these components have in common: high quality standards. At TEMO, each sub-assembly is selected from the top of the range. The motor unit, for example, costs over €160 on its own, because we prioritize the best materials, meticulous assembly techniques, and optimal sealing to guarantee performance and durability. And this philosophy applies to the entire TEMO·450 electric motor.
TEMO: the right price for quality
So how do we arrive at a retail price of € 1,590? Here’s the breakdown:
Behind every TEMO·450 sold, there is much more than just an engine: there is an entire ecosystem.
From the €253 gross margin generated by each unit, TEMO finances its employees' salaries, premises, insurance, banking partners, and all the communication necessary to promote the product.
Added to this are heavy investments: technical studies, certifications, continuous improvement, plastic injection molds, industrial tools and processes... all for around €50, in order to stay at the cutting edge and, ideally, generate a little profit to prepare for the future.
Distributors, who do a remarkable job, have storage costs, salaries, rent, insurance, investments, taxes, and all kinds of expenses. All of this allows them to offer you local service and valuable advice in choosing your electric boat motor.
As for VAT, it is unavoidable, necessary, and fair.
You have power!
Some might say that when we sell directly from our website
or with a more direct distribution method, the margins are much higher. And that's true. But the reality is that this represents only a tiny fraction of our sales (less than 5%) and that this additional margin is welcome in the company's accounts. It allows us to maintain a direct link with our customers so that we can get to know them better and develop our range based on their feedback.
C’est ça, le vrai prix d’un produit.
Tomorrow, there may be copies made in Asia that are much cheaper. But remember: choosing a TEMO product means choosing quality, innovation, and French manufacturing that respects workers' rights. It's not just a purchase, but also a civic act; it's the responsibility of the consumer-actor.
