Pouvez-vous vous présenter ?
Brice : My name is Brice Esnault, I'm a sales representative for Cartonnages de l'Atlantique and I cover the Morbihan and Ille-et-Vilaine areas.
Pierre : Pierre Comot, I've been with TEMO for a year and a half now, and I'm in charge of Production, Procurement, Supply Chain and Inventory Management.
How did you meet?
Brice : We approached TEMO to find out if they were a consumer of carton packaging. At the time, TEMO needed packaging for their new engine, TEMO-1000.
Pierre : TEMO·1000, with its 1000 watts of power, can move boats such as dinghies or small sailboats. All this with a number of ergonomic innovations, including the possibility of a removable battery, which is quite new.
La géographie vous a rapproché ?
Brice : We're a local player, an SME with around 50 employees, and we cover the Greater West of France, including Brittany and the Pays de Loire. So our aim is to work with people like us, SMEs like TEMO who need a lot of services and support.
Pierre : TEMO is also committed to local production. We sell electric motors all over the world, and we want to produce as much as possible in France.
What did you expect from this relationship?
Brice : It was quite a complex project to get to grips with, insofar as we're talking about a boat engine with solid areas on which we can rely, and more fragile areas that we absolutely have to avoid. And then there are the electronics, which are also fragile. There was also another challenge to take up, concerning the presentation for the end customer. The product had to be well displayed with its accessories such as the key, charger, battery, etc., as well as its accessories.
Pierre : Nous avions des contraintes concernant l’emballage du moteur. Nous voulions pouvoir mettre le tout sur une palette standard. C’était assez contraignant de s’imposer cela au vu du volume de l'objet. Nous avions aussi la volonté d’être dans une démarche écologique et d’avoir un emballage qui soit 100% carton. Cette contrainte vient aussi avec le fait d'avoir un emballage suffisamment simple pour que cela reste facile et rapide à mettre en forme.
Has this relationship been built over time?
Pierre : It took a while! That's another reason why we really appreciated our relationship with Cartonnages de l'Atlantique. We felt that they were willing to support us. TEMO is still a young start-up. We were able to draw on the experience of Brice and his team. The possibility of prototyping cardboard was a major challenge for us.
Brice : We produced a first version, then a second. Tests were carried out to simulate individual transport, and it was at this point that we optimized the model to arrive at a final version that perfectly met TEMO's specifications.
