TEMO is taking a new step forward in its CSR approach. Its flagship motor, the TEMO·450, is now rated “highly repairable” according to the Voluntary Repairability Index (VRI), with a score of 91,9/100.
lthough the Repairability Index (RI) has been mandatory in France since January 1, 2021, for a number of products — particularly in the household appliance sector — electric boat motors are not currently included in this regulated category. However, there is a voluntary initiative, the Voluntary Repairability Index (VRI), which makes it possible to assess products using a methodology that is just as rigorous and demanding for manufacturers. In line with this commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, TEMO has chosen to undergo this assessment process.
With this approach, TEMO is also becoming the first electric motor manufacturer to apply and communicate on this methodology, further reinforcing its position as a pioneering player in the ecological transition of the boating industry.
What is the Voluntary Repairability Index (VRI)?
The Voluntary Repairabiliry Index (VRI) makes it possible to measure the repairability of any product outside the categories covered by the mandatory Repairability Index introduced in 2021 (under the AGEC law) and the durability index introduced in 2025.
It is fully aligned with a circular economy and corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach, promoting:
- Ecodesign
- Manufacturers transparency
- The fight against planned obsolescence
Developed by Jean-Paul Ventère, a former employee of the Ministry for Sustainable Development and currently an independent consultant working in partnership with VD Consulting, and connected with the work of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, this methodology provides a rigorous and accessible framework for concretely assessing product repairability.
« Applied to the TEMO·450, the calculation method of the Voluntary Repairability Index (VRI) results in a score of 91.9 out of 100, classifying it as “highly repairable”.» says Jean-Paul Ventère, on March 15 2026.

TEMO·450: a reference for small boats
Launched in 2020, the TEMO·450 is the brand’s first developed model. It quickly established itself as a reference for small-boat propulsion (tenders, boats up to 2.5 meters, carrying 2 to 3 passengers).
Its success is based on key features:
-
Ultra-portable (4.9 kg including the battery)
-
Compact and ergonomic
-
Easy to use, even for occasional boaters
Designed to simplify harbor maneuvers and short-distance trips, it perfectly meets the evolving needs of recreational boating.
A product design focused on repairability
From the outset, the TEMO·450 was developed with a clear objective: extending the product’s lifespan by making it easier to repair.
This high level of repairability is based on strong industrial choices:
| Accessibility and availability of spare parts | Simplified repairs | User support & assistance |
|
|
|
TEMO also offers free remote assistance, making diagnosis and repair easier.

A concrete approach to the circular economy
In order to reduce environmental impact, TEMO also offers reconditioned TEMO·450 units, refurbished in its workshop in Vannes (France).

Objectives:
|
Each reconditioned motor undergoes strict quality control to ensure safety and reliability.
An approach intended to be extended across the entire product range
The assessment of the TEMO·450 is only a first step. TEMO plans to extend this approach to its entire product range, including the TEMO·1000, designed with the same requirements for durability and repairability.
This approach reflects a broader vision:
-
Integrating repairability from the design stage
-
Supporting users in maintenance
-
Combating planned obsolescence
« Designing durable products from the outset, by making repairability a fundamental pillar, is at the heart of our approach », says Stéphane L’Appartien, Industrial director at TEMO.
TEMO confirms its role as a pioneer in sustainable boating
With an electric motor classified as “highly repairable” and a structured approach focused on durability, TEMO strengthens its position as a forerunner in responsible boating.
By combining performance, repairability, and environmental commitment, the brand actively contributes to transforming usage patterns and supporting the sector’s ecological transition.
