June 2024: French company TEMO, manufacturer of the first portable electric outboard motor TEMO·450, enters the American market.
The pioneering startup in marine portable electric propulsion has seen great initial success in its home market. Just three years after the launch of the TEMO·450 motor, it has already delivered over 3,000 electric motors across Europe.
It is now planning international expansion, targeting the North American market.
Defender Industries, headquartered in Waterford, CT, has been appointed as the official dealer in the United States.
The TEMO·450 motor will be unveiled at the Annapolis Boat Show in October.
Defender Industries provides a wide range of high-end marine equipment. Defender CEO, Stephan Lance, said he was delighted to welcome TEMO·450 to Defender's portfolio.

The TEMO·450 motor is recognized and has won several international awards. It was the winner of the METSTRADE Connect 2020 DAME, the highest European distinction in the marine sector, and also received the prestigious Pittman Innovation Awards 2022 in the United States.
Designed for dinghies, tenders, and small boats, this portable system includes a 450W motor, a 220V charger, a safety device, and an oarlock interface. The TEMO·450 weighs just under 5kg, with 200W of propulsion power and a maximum thrust of 12 kg.
The company's co-founder, Alexandre SEUX, started working on the TEMO concept after a round-the-world sailing trip.
During his round-the-world trip, he observed the problems associated with traditional methods of boat tender propulsion (heavy combustion engines to transport) or oars, which require significant physical effort in some cases.

TEMO will present the TEMO·450 at the Annapolis Sailboat Show, one of the largest boat shows in the United States, which will be held from October 13 to 17, 2022.
