For this test report, welcome to Quimiac in the company of Thibaut and Carmin!
The goal was to start from Quimiac beach and cross to Pénestin, testing two modes of use of the TEMO·450 to see how the battery gauge evolves.
Let's go! ☀️
Test idea.
The idea was to take 2 identical dinghies and 2 TEMO·450s . One accelerated to 100% of the trigger and the other to 70% and see how the battery gauge behaves throughout the crossing .
Test conditions.
The weather conditions for this test were ideal, with an average wind speed of around 10 knots and calm seas. These conditions allowed for an accurate assessment of the engine's range. 🌊
Equipment.
For this test, two inflatable dinghies of less than 2.60m and two TEMO·450s were used.
Two cameras followed our sailors on their journey to monitor the battery charge in real time throughout their trip! ⛵️
Test procedure.
The test consisted of covering the distance between Quimiac and Pénestin .
Thibaut started by accelerating fully , at 100% of the throttle, while Carmin opted for a mid-range mode.
Initially, Thibaut took the lead due to his higher speed, but his battery ran out faster than Carmin's.
Carmin, on the other hand, maintained a moderate speed but retained its range for longer.
Test results.
The test results are impressive and conclusive ! Here's an overview of the main findings:
| Appendix 1 - Thibaut - 100% Acceleration | Appendix 2 - Carmine - 70% Acceleration |
| Serial number: 882 • Date of manufacture: January 2021 • Number of charge cycles: approximately 100 • Battery life: 51 minutes Distance covered: 4.4 km · Average speed: 3.7 km/h |
Serial number: 7795 |
| After 52 minutes, Thibaut's battery was completely depleted . | While Carmin's TEMO·450 still shows 2 bars + the reserve! |
Carmin caught up with Thibaut in just 6 minutes and continued sailing for another 39 minutes! 🚀
A huge congratulations to Carmin for his impressive TEMO·450 sailing record : 1 hour 45 minutes . Who knows, maybe we'll soon see it in the Guinness Book of Records! 🥇

Understanding the results.
The results of this test highlight the nature of the Lithium-ion batteries that power the TEMO·450. If you want to know everything about our batteries and become an expert on all the electrical concepts related to them, we explain everything in detail !
To get back to our results: the discharge curve of lithium-ion batteries is not linear .
|
The first bars of the battery discharge more rapidly. This is followed by a more stable discharge period, and then a final drop. When the engine is under load, the battery voltage drops, but it recovers when acceleration stops. This explains why a bar on the gauge may reappear from time to time . |
This test report shows us that it's not necessary to use the TEMO·450's maximum power to cover long distances and enjoy a pleasant outing at sea. By judiciously adjusting your speed, you can extend your adventure… and delay running out of fuel.
You now know that once the first three blue bars of the gauge have disappeared, you still have a good half hour of power at your fingertips.
