Can you introduce yourself?

Brice: My name is Brice Esnault, I am a salesman for the company Cartonnages de l'Atlantique and I cover the Morbihan and Ille-et-Vilaine sectors.

Pierre: Pierre Comot, I have been at TEMO for a year and a half and I am in charge of everything related to Production, Procurement and Supply Chain.

How did you two meet?

Brice: We approached the company TEMO to find out if they were consumers of cardboard packaging. At that time, TEMO needed packaging for their new engine, the TEMO·1000.

Pierre: The TEMO·1000, which has a 1000-watt motor, can move small boats such as tenders or small sailboats. It also features some innovations in ergonomics and the option of a removable battery, which is quite new.

Has geography brought you closer together?

Brice: We are a local player, an SME with around 50 employees. Our area of operation is the Greater West region, including Brittany and the Pays de la Loire. Indeed, our goal is to work with people like us, SMEs like TEMO that require a great deal of services and support.

Pierre: At TEMO there is also this desire to do things locally. We are a company that sells electric motors all over the world and we have this desire to produce as much as possible in France.

What did you expect from this relationship?

Brice: It was a fairly complex project to grasp, given that we're talking about a boat engine with solid areas we can rely on, and more fragile areas that we absolutely have to avoid. And then there's the electronics, which are a source of vulnerability. There was also another challenge to overcome regarding the presentation for the end customer. The product had to be showcased effectively with its accessories like the key, charger, battery, etc.

Pierre: We had constraints regarding the engine's packaging. We wanted to be able to fit everything on a standard pallet. This was quite restrictive given the size of the item. We also wanted to be environmentally friendly and use 100% cardboard packaging. This constraint also meant having packaging simple enough to be quick and easy to assemble.

Has this relationship developed over time?

Pierre: It took a little while! That's also why we really appreciated the relationship with Cartonnages de l'Atlantique. We felt there was a real desire to support us. TEMO is still a young startup. We were able to draw on the experience brought by Brice and his team. The ability to prototype cardboard was a pretty important factor for us.

Brice: We made a first version, then a second. There were tests that were done to simulate individual transport and it was at that point that we optimized the model to arrive at a final version that perfectly meets TEMO's specifications.
